About Us

Mr Matheny started in the automobile business after WWII working at Brooks Motors (in San Marco), and later with San Marco Motors. In the late 50's, Lawrence joined Massey Motors at State St & Main St, working his way through various departments. In 1963, Mr. W.W. Massey Sr, offered Lawrence a partnership in a new Dodge dealership, Southside Dodge, located at 4744 Phillips Highway.

Time and stress led Mr. Matheny to sell his interest in this dealership in 1971, and in 1972 he purchased the Sport Auto dealership from local race car legend Peter H. Gregg. At this time, it sold Fiat & MG automobiles from its showroom located in downtown Jacksonville at 5th & Main Street.

In 1973, Mr. M (as he was known) moved Sport Auto to Atlantic Boulevard and renamed the company Matheny Imports, Inc. Over the years, he sold and serviced, along with Fiat and MG - Jaguar, Lotus, Triumph, Rover cars, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, DeLorean & Saab.

In the 1975 Ray Matheny joined his father and gained experience from working in several departments to include, warranty processing, parts department, sales department to General Manager.

In January, 1998 tragedy struck Matheny Imports when Mr. Matheny "Mr. M" lost his battle with cancer.

Ray Matheny took it on himself to continue the "Matheny" tradition to continue to build an outstanding team to provide the best possible sales and service experience a customer/client can have.
