About Mr. Matheny
Time and stress led Mr. Matheny to sell his interest in this dealership in 1971, and in 1972 he purchased the Sport Auto dealership from local race car legend Peter H. Gregg. At this time, it sold Fiat & MG automobiles from its showroom located downtown Jacksonville at 5th & Main Street. In 1973, Mr. M (as he was known) moved Sport Auto to Atlantic Boulevard and renamed the company Matheny Imports, Inc. Over the years, he sold and serviced, along with Fiat & MG - Jaguar, Lotus, Triumph, Rover cars, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, DeLorean & Saab. |

Mr
Matheny started in the automobile business after WWII working at Brooks
Motors (in San Marco), and later with San Marco Motors. In the late
50's, Lawrence joined Massey Motors at State St & Main St, working
his way thru various departments. In 1963, Mr. W.W. Massey Sr, offered
Lawrence a partnership in a new Dodge dealership, Southside Dodge, located
at 4744 Phillips Highway.
